In this session, we'll discuss how mindfulness-based practices in the classroom can deepen learning and heighten focus, sense of safety, and connection for students. The session will include conversation with visiting monastics and expert mindfulness/Dharma teachers from Thich Nhat Hanh’s Plum Village tradition as well as Dartmouth faculty and staff who have incorporated mindfulness into their teaching. They will share examples of methods and practices that are effective in the classroom and the outcomes they have experienced in doing so. Participants will also experience a brief mindful eating exercise as part of lunch, which will be provided. No prior experience is necessary, and instructors from all disciplines are encouraged to attend.
