What does an equitable approach to grading look like, and is it feasible in the Dartmouth classroom?

In the 2018 book Grading for Equity, author Joe Feldman argues that traditional grading practices perpetuate inequities among students and advocates for grading practices that are accurate, bias-resistant, and motivational. He asserts that these practices improve learning, minimize grade inflation, decrease academic dishonesty, and build stronger learning communities. What does an equitable approach to grading look like, and is it feasible in the Dartmouth classroom? In this session, participants will discuss the core tenets of Feldman's approach and explore how these ideas might apply in their own teaching contexts.
