The arrival of generative AI has raised fundamental questions about our purpose as educators. Many of us are grappling with a sense of loss, as technologies now automate the very intellectual struggles we believe are essential for students’ growth. If the "work necessary for learning" can be outsourced, what becomes of our most deeply held values?

Rather than simply reacting against or embracing the technology, this session offers a space to process these concerns, reaffirm our core mission, and collectively chart a path forward.

Join colleagues in discussion to :

  • Acknowledge and articulate the professional and pedagogical challenges we are facing.
  • Discuss how to design learning experiences that still cultivate the habits of mind we hold dear.
  • Explore alternative assessment strategies—from scaffolded essays to oral exams to authentic projects—that honor deep learning while remaining accessible to all students.
  • Work toward a renewed sense of purpose and integrity in a changed educational landscape.
