Meaningful faculty-student relationships are a cornerstone of the Dartmouth experience, yet the growing complexity of students' lives presents challenges for even the most dedicated faculty mentors. How can we provide robust support without exceeding our own capacity and expertise?

This interactive session explores a partnership-based approach to student care, centered on collaboration with the Undergraduate Deans Office. We will discuss the unique and complementary roles that faculty and deans play in a student's support network. You will leave with a clearer understanding of the deans' extensive resources and a framework for when and how to engage them as partners, ensuring our students receive holistic, expert support.

Participants in this session will:

  • Recognize the signs of student distress that warrant a dean's involvement.
  • Understand the function and scope of the Undergraduate Deans Office.
  • Learn the practical steps for referring a student and what to expect next.
  • Identify strategies for co-supporting students in partnership with the deans.

We will be joined by:

Sarah Berger, Assistant Dean of Pre-Health Advising

Chris Berry, Assistant Undergraduate Dean for Case Management

Michelle Kermond, Associate Director of the Undergraduate Deans Office, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Students

Susan Taffe Reed, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Students

Lunch will be provided. Please register!
