Since the emergence of GenAI in the academic environment, instructors and students alike have needed to reorient to our community’s commitment to academic honor in a rapidly evolving landscape. With institutional guidance granting faculty the authority to define permissible GenAI use in their own courses, students encounter a wide range of interpretations and definitions, only adding to this complexity.
The Office of Community Standards and Accountability sits at the intersection of the institutional Academic Honor Principle and these individual course definitions of appropriate GenAI use. Charged with upholding our commitment to academic honor in this complex environment, they hold a unique vantage point and valuable insights into what's working—and what isn't—in policy and practice between students and instructors in their courses.
