Participants in this session will review the literature on student evaluations of teaching and discuss best practices for reading and interpreting them.
Course evaluations can be valuable sources of information about our teaching, but can also be easily misinterpreted or misunderstood, and reflect inherent biases. Participants in this session will review the literature on student evaluations of teaching and discuss best practices for reading and interpreting them. The session will consider different perspectives including that of an instructor, a writer/reader of a letter or recommendation, a chair, and an administrator. Lunch will be provided.
The session will be followed by an optional office hour from 1:00-2:00 pm for anyone wishing to review their course evaluations in one-one consultation with DCAL staff. If you wish to participate, please bring your course evaluations!
This event is designed to take place in person, though there is a remote option to accommodate those who cannot attend due to illness or being away from campus. While we cannot promise an equivalent remote experience and acknowledge that technology is not always reliable, we will do our best to include you. Thank you!
