As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to unfold, the standards and structures of higher education are encountering challenges that are likely to be felt for years to come. Among them are decisions about how to deliver the academic experience in a way that can accommodate a wide range of potential future scenarios. Most colleges and universities are now weighing a continuum of options for fall term 2020, with a return to normal, in-person teaching and learning on one end, a fully remote experience on the other, and a number of complicated possibilities in between.

Join Joshua Kim, Director of Online Programs and Strategies at Dartmouth College and Edward Maloney, Executive Director of the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship at Georgetown University, for an inquiry-based discussion of the possible scenarios emerging for fall term across the higher education landscape. Kim and Maloney’s unique vantage point as scholars at the intersection of traditional models and emerging innovations in the education sector will bring useful analysis and a broad context to the conversation about the unique moment our institutions are facing.

Kim and Maloney are the co-authors of 15 Fall Scenarios, published on Inside Higher Ed, which is recommended reading prior to the discussion. They are publishing a blog post about each scenario on the site as well.

This event is intended for educators, practitioners, and scholars of higher education seeking an academic framework and discussion. The discussion will not address the particulars of specific institutions or their administrations’ decisions for fall term.
